In January 2011, Brewster Transportation made public its plans for a proposed “Glacier Discovery Walk” on the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park. As evidenced by various open houses, letters to editors of newspapers, opinions of bighorn sheep, and the chatter of online message boards, reaction to the proposal has, (from those who have no vested financial interest in it) so far, been overwhelmingly negative. Nonetheless, Parks Canada supports the idea and Brewster Transportation is proceeding. What irks many about the plan is the lack of need for the project, the cursory environmental appraisal, the restriction of public access to national park land that would result, and the
“done deal” nature of the process. Click here to go to the "No Glacier Discovery Walk" website.
